New Messenger Concept

The last days I thought a lot about different messengers. After lots of years every messenger looks the same ... so I had the idea about a new UI of a messenger.

First of all I thought about the Ribbon interface: You have the main menu on the upper left corner and the most used elements next to it. So I did in my concept. To have a nice design I put the avatar to the upper left corner. With one click on it, you can update your profile. Next to it there is a toolbar for the most used features. I guess there're just things like a button for 'Add users', a toggle button for 'Show offline users', one button for the history and one to open the messenger settings.
Below this, there's space for our contact details. Putting you mouse on the (here) ICQ flower and scroll up/down to change this state. Click it and the possible flowers will appear around you cursor. The same happens at the status note input. Click on it and type to use a new one or just click at one of the recent status notes around the cursor.

The next new thing is the list of your contact list groups. You have kind of a bar where you can scroll through. Just put the cursor on it and scroll up or down. Next to your custom groups you have an option to view all contacts or just your favorites.

Below are the contacts listed. I guess the current way to display them is the best way. You have an ordered list and look for them. By typing it filters them, automatically.

The last big thing is a new context menu. I think the old one is really kind of old The new one places the options all around the cursor. Just remember the position and you find it very fast each time you need something. It's kind of the same like the "Windows Flicks" feature for touch devices. Why don't use it for messengers, too?





So please tell me your opinions and new ideas about my concept. Shall I create a concept for the message window, too? Shall I create such a messenger for ICQ using Adobe AIR? It's possible and the design can be customized by you
